BETRAYAL IN THE DIASPORA

I do not know José Mourinho personally. I would be very surprised if he would ever be interested in knowing whether I exist or not. We live in such divergent worlds, miles upon miles apart. I refer to him here only for the one reason that his recent fall from glory and grace finally brought it on home to me that, as leaders, makers, as well as movers of men and women, when the mighty fall, there is one common thread connecting them all, … That common thread is betrayal. Jesus was betrayed to the cross by one of his disciples, Judas. His Chief Disciple, Peter, would disown him three times at the very last minute. But I won’t go there … (Continued in the book: “MACHONA AWAKENING – home in grey matter”. Order other books on Amazon here).

38 YEARS AN EXILE: IX

HOME AT LAST! Part 9
WALOBA AWARD 2014

My father the original exile, Mr Elias Lazarus Waloba Chilembo, would have turned 83 years old on Wednesday, November 19, 2014. When the pangs of British colonialism induced poverty were too much to bear, he, like his own father before, Waloba The First, trekked from our remote village in Eastern Zambia, to South Africa in search of greener pastures. This was soon after the end of World War II, in 1947. Four years later his mother died. He came back home to bury her. As per clan norms among my people, he being the eldest offspring in my grandmother’s house, Pappa should have stayed on to help Waloba The First look after his large, polygamous family. But no, he preferred to go back to exile in South Africa, where he would firmly plant his own roots in the land of diamonds and gold by eventually getting married, and establishing a family … (Continued in the book: “MACHONA AWAKENING – home in grey matter”. YOU RULE? YOUR SONG

FOR THOSE WHO RULE

I’m Big Fish
I push waves big time
In the biggest pond
Call it the ocean

When I growl
The sun trembles
I’m Big Cat

I snarl
Small dogs feel the rain coming
I’m Top Dog

Can you handle me?

My mind is in it
Nothing can stop me now

Ain’t just talk, empty words
It is BIG TALK, loaded words

Got any doubts?
Try me!

STEPHEN CHAN’S REPLY:

Simon the Whale
sang in a wine-red sea.
He swam as he sang
and he sang merrily.

He sang of wind
he sang of rain
he sang of joy
and he sang of pain.

But he sang as he swam
and swam as he sang
till swimming and singing
were One in the Sea.

So even the sea
in its redness like wine
and its conquest of time
danced merrily.
